Target the moss and debris

Moss, leaves, branches, and other buildup collect on roof surfaces and around drainage paths. Describe the areas you can see, whether gutters also need attention, and the roof covering if known. This helps focus the review on the right cleaning method.

Stay on the ground when taking photos. If you see staining or algae-like marks, describe them rather than assuming they are moss. Note when the buildup was last cleared; prior treatment can affect the method.

Choose a suitable cleaning plan

A clear removal plan names the roof areas, valleys, gutters, and surfaces included, plus how debris will be collected and disposed of. The method should fit the covering and state which steps are optional. Keep any repair recommendation separate from cleaning.

If treatment is part of the plan, name the product, application area, timing, and care instructions. Consider whether runoff, nearby plants, or a rainwater collection system affects the work.

  • Affected roof and gutter areas.
  • Removal method and cleanup or disposal.
  • Optional treatment and the product proposed.
  • Separate repair recommendations and their approval.

Separate cleaning from repair

A cleaning visit can reveal conditions that need a separate repair review. If you also want an inspection, gutter cleaning, or minor repair considered, include it in the project brief.

Share the roof covering, access limits, cleanup needs, and any follow-up treatment you are considering so the review can focus on the work you want. Identify valleys, lower roof sections, skylights, dormers, and gutter runs by roof side or elevation so cleanup can be checked against the requested areas. When roof and gutter cleaning happen together, list both so the debris plan covers each area.

Request moss removal

For moss and debris removal, share the city, roof type if known, visible buildup, nearby gutters, and whether you want to discuss treatment. Include any prior cleaning or product application.

Check the contractor record through Washington L&I and compare cleaning method, treatment, cleanup, and exclusions. Keep any repair recommendation separate from the removal work.
